As you may have read elsewhere on this site I found a new never installed T-5 for about half price. Yesterday while taking it to the shop to introduce it to its new motor, my son opened the back door on the SUV and it rolled out and fell to the floor. I assured him it would be OK and not to worry, but obviously I do. I can't find any dammage except the nuteral switch on the top left side was broken, no cracks that I can find. For those of you who know far more than I, is it likely to have any internal damage? I'm sure they suffer far more stress during use, but I'm a little concerned.

Paul, they're pretty tough. If there are no bits broken off the case and no cracks show, any will soon enough as the fluid will start to seep through, then I'd think you're ok. If you can install the shifter and run it through the gears then I'd think all the internals would be fine as well.

Thanks Bill, The plastic shipping cover was still on the shifter, it broke and the very top of the shift lever has a couple of scratchs. It turned upside down and landed on the top left corner so the shifter didn't take much impact. As I say the natural switch was rather smashed and took most the impact. Most of us don't seem to use it, but I'll replace it anyway if I can find one; maybe a plug. By the time I left the shop last night it hadn't leaked any fluid and as thin as Dextron II is it most likeky would have, and it does have some in it. I haven't tried to shift it but will when I get back to the shop. Staying home today as it's snowing and that means this old guy isn't hanging out in an aircraft hanger today.

Paul, you can use a pipe thread plug in the neutral switch hole if you turn it over and remove the small steel ball and the short steel rod. I removed them and put in the plug. The only reason to have the operating neutral switch is if you run the ford computer. It is needed to run the KOER function test. Your can run the KOEO scan w/o it. I would think the tranny is ok, if no cracks are evident.

Thanks Kelly, I looked it over pretty good with a bright light and didn't see anything If I get back to the shop tomorrow and its not swiming in a pool of ATF, I think that's what I'll do. Thanks for the info on removing the switch.
