Edelbrock 1404 throttle linkage interferes with MG valve cover

Offenhausere intake on a Rover V8.

Edelbrok 1404 carb.

Secondary throttle linkage is being prevented from opening all the way because of the valve cover.

Has anyone put a spacer on top of the intake manifold? I have a K and N air cleaner so I have an uncut stock hood. Clearance issues?

A phenolic spacer would be quite routine to prevent heat & fuel evaporation problems.

Maybe yours doesn't have one precisely to avoid hood clearance issues.

There is an Offy manifold, the JWR/Offenhauser which is low rise. High torque. [www.woolfe.com] That's the one I'm using.

Air cleaners come in various thicknesses. I bought a 3" for my Rover V8, it was too tall, so I went to a thinner one. How thick is yours?

A closer look shows that the linkage juuuust clears the valve cover. And that the problem for the secondaries not opening was a stretched or slipped throttle cable. Re adjusted and all is right with the world.

If you have a cable, it's a good idea to protect it with an adjustable pedal stop. The design can be extremely simple. Typically, a strategically placed bolt and two nuts will do the trick.

IMHO, a proper throttle linkage is a very worthwhile upgrade.

Too right. Otherwise the cable will eventually break.
Mind you, if the pedal stop is attached to the pedal rather than the floor, that can have issues too. I recall a significant improvement in performance from removing multiple layers of carpet from under the stop.
