3.4l ENGINE TIMING/OVERHEATING

I HAVE A 3.4L CHEVROLET WITH A 390 HOLLEY CARB. I HAVE PROBLEMS TO GET THE TIMING RIGHT.
DO ANY ONE KNOWS WHAT IS THE PROPER TIMING FOR THIS ENGINE? I DO IMAGINE IS SIMILAR THAN THE OLD 2.8L.
ALSO I HAVE A CUSTOM RADIATOR (NEW) IS JUST BIGGER THAN THE ORIGINAL ON THE MGB. I HAVE 7 INCH FANS X2, AND A 12 INCH FAN (PULLER). I STILL HAVE TEMPS OF 225+. THE WATER PUMP IS NEW. ANY HELP.
THANKS

Try a 190 degree thermostat. Did you get the right water pump, some are reverse rotation. Does it look like the old one.Burp all the air out of the system. Put aluminum sheet metal around radiator to force all air through radiator. Maybe louvers in hood and/or inner fenders, or bend the back lip at hood to let heat out.For timing 12-14 degrees initial with vacuum disconnected and plugged. If the carb is lean it will run warm also.Oh, and your CAP LOCK is on!

My wife told me about the CAPS ON, thanks. The rotation of the pump is correct (CCW). I took the thermostat out.
The timing 12-14 degrees from 12 o'clock clockwise or 3 o'clock CCW.
Thanks.

Do not run with out the thermostat. They will overheat. I use a 195 thermo in my 3.1 and have no overheating even with the AC on. I use a mustange radiator.
these engine should be able to run with the stock MG rad if in good shape.
I run my timing at 14 degrees on the street and use 87 octane gas.
I, too have the 390 carb. No change of jets and it runs fine.
