Steering column bearing modifications & Turn- Signal switch

I had rebuilt my 1971 (Edit: I think my column is from 1962-1967) steering column with new upper split bush and lower felt bush. I have not driven the car since the rebuild. Yesterday I pulled the column assembly out of the car and the found the upper bush had been chewed up by the turn signal cancellation pin. I'm thinking I need to modify this. Looking to others that may have encountered similar problems. Or has anyone made modifications as follows:

I plan to machine (turn) the steering shaft its intire length to 7/8" actually .872" diameter as it is worn a little. Then I will machine off the rolled edge at the bottom of the column tube. Machine two collared bushes from MDS-Nylon. Insert one bush in each end of the tube and slide the shaft in.

My turn signal switch is also in need of repair. It's a simple fix, but if I can buy a new one I would. Anyone know of a source? I've checked Moss and a couple of other suppliers but no luck. Ebay has the later model but not mine.

Look forward to feed-back.

Thanks,

Arthur
