There use to be a guy in australia that was building a twin turbo fully modified mgb. I think his name was bryon. My one link no longer works and I cant seem to find any info on it. Dose anyone know of or what happened to the project.

The only beast I have seen would be "ye-beast" which is a Triumph Spitfire.

Here is the site. [ye-beast.com]

I would too thats the problem. All my pics and this is but a few are B&K, back in 1998 color printers were $$$. Has anyone ever seen a Mgb modified this extensively before?

Hi,

I'm the owner of the above car. Unfortunately it's never quiet been finished. I ran out of time and money a little while back so the website got mothballed. However some progress has been made from the photos above. I'll post a couple tonight but can share a lot more and info depending on what people want to know. Time permitting it might get going next year sometime.

Cheers

It's a fascinating project - and I'm very keen to see more of it too!

But guys... including your e-mail address in message board posts is pretty-much guaranteed to get you added to spam distribution lists. Instead, I highly recommend taking advantage of our site's "private message" system. It works great - give it a try!

I'll post some more pics tonight, including some up to date ones... There isn't an awful lot do...tubs, strip, paint, put together. Given how little car there is, none of this is that difficult. Just need more time (2 young kids don't help).

Given the pics at the top, it looks pre-dyno time??? If so people may be interested in the numbers and other related info?

Well, that looks just a wee bit extreme... Can we get a detail shot or two of your front suspension? Inquiring minds would like to know what spindle you used and how the uprights are arranged. Quite a massive undertaking all in all. Congrats for getting this far with it.

How did your rover do on the dyno?? Also any plans of posting your pics online again, Im sure you would be welcome too post them here. I know I would like to see them all again. You use too have a very interesting site back in 98 I always enjoyed seeing what you were up too even though all I had was dial up back then, man things have changed.

If my memory recalls I think he used alot of porsche parts for his suspension I believe 944? .

Thanks for the all the interest guys...and yeah it is a bit extreme. I think I did bite off more than I can chew...anyways.

The front suspension is a custom designed double A-arm arrangement using Porsche 944 Turbo magnesium front hubs. Coil-over TraxSpax shockies take the bumps with 1000Lb springs. The suspension is a rising rate design as used on most modern cars and hence requires heavy springs. The suspension was all CAD designed for the car.

I've attached another piccie. Not sure if it has more detail that's useful or not?

I've got some Porsche big red calipers and disks ready to go, just need to make the adaptor plates to mount the calipers. The rears are another story, and still undecided.

On the piccie front I'll post some more of what's been done recently including some fairly average paneling to cover the fuel tank (see piccie).

On the engine front it did really well. On 98 octane we ran it max rpm of 6000 and max boost of 19psi. It was pretty hot in the dyno room, and with a small fan and some hand water squirter bottles I think we did ok.

It made 148ft-lb at 1500rpm (no boost we think), 370@3000 (8psi-artificially limited boost), 592@4000(19psi), 629@4500 (19psi max torque).

Max power was 623@6000rpm@19psi.

I think there maybe more in it when it's rolling on the road, but I achieved my goal (I think) of having a very torquey engine with a good power spread that means I'll never wish for more. How reliable it all is remains to be seen, but with per gear boost control I can treat it nicely and there's no stone we left unturned in the pursuit of reliability.

The trick was to use really small turbos (and a decent injection system) so that you don't get a peaky undrivable car.

Byron

Byron, I'm fascinated by just about every aspect of this car. You couldn't possibly post too many photos!

Please consider writing up a couple articles about various aspects of the design! We could run them in a series in the online magazine part of this website. What might the articles look like? One possibility would be to simply select photos that show how a system (e.g. front suspension) went together, and then write captions to help the photos tell the story. Add a paragraph about your design objectives (for that specific system) and another about your conclusions after its completion... and call it an article! Here's a pretty good example of that approach: [www.britishv8.org]
