Crane distributors and Rover engines - question
Posted by: Simon Austin

Can anyone tell me what (if any) Crane distributor will work with a Rover 3.5? I've been helping on a conversion and the owner is thinking of going this route.

Can't seem to find a part number so thought I'd ask you guys.

Thx!

There was a Crane Fireball something conversion in the distributer on the TR8 I bought a few months ago. DPO had just installed it. Good for almost 75 miles before it crapped out.

I have almost 500,000 total miles on Pertronics in Rover/buick engines and would never run anything else.I bought a complete new Pertronics distributor for less than $200.00 fot the TR8. They are available for both Rovers and GM 215, or you can buy the Pertronics conversion unit under $100.00.

Simon

I got my distributor for my Rover 3.5 rebuilt by Advanced distributors [www.advanceddistributors.com] and with my Petronics ignitor all seems to work well.

Thanks for the info, guys. I believe we'll be going the Pertronix route as it is a TR8 distributor in the engine right now. As well, based on personal experience, I'd rather the owner use the Pertronix anyway.

Found this bit of bling on the Pertronix website last night: [pertronix.com]

Fate? I think so....:) I've sent them an email asking about prices.

Bruce, I had Jeff do some work on the RV8's distributor a while back. Good guy to know.
