T5 transmission mount
Posted by: MARVIN, CT

I'm nearing completion of putting a Mustang t5 in my TD, behind the Ford 60hp. The t5 mount is at least twice as tall as I can use. Any recommendations for a mount about an inch or so tall. Thanks, Marvin

Donut? Is that what you'd call this 2-piece style, like I used for both engine and transmission?

You should be able to find them from all sorts of industrial supply outfits... McMaster-Carr, etc.

I was thinking of these types available from hotrod suppliers, but either would work.

Anchor 2268 - T5 mount - used in early GM and Ford products

Anchor 2268.jpg

I should add that O'Reillys have them for $4.99

Marvin,Just curious, did you use the S-10 tailshaft with the Mustang T5? Commonly done in street rod flathead T5 swaps.

Jim, I used the Mustang tailshaft, perfect position in the TD. I just need to bend the shift lever over to the right to center it, if that's possible. Marvin

Thanks, Marvin! You never know, maybe I'll pick up a TD someday. I know a guy that goes to Brazil every so often. I asked him if he could round up some Ardun style Simca Hemi heads to fit the flathead 60. There are a couple running motors on U Tube. You should be able to bend the shifter in a large vice, may need to heat it.

Doesn't the shifter lever just bolt to a stub on the shifter itself? If so, it might be easier to do what I did -- I welded a bolt to the top of a piece of 1" square tube -- drilled holes through. It slides over the shifter stub & bolts on. If I remember right the stub was a little smaller so I used some 16 or 18ga stock to make shims that I tacked inside the tube. My shifter is a Steeda but I think that part of the design is the same as stock mustang shifter. Was quick & easy & you can make the shifter any lenght you want that way too.

It's a stock TD axle with MGB 3.9 gears. Marvin

This is what I put together for the 4.3 Spitfire. Might be about what you are looking for.

I bent the T5 Camaro shifter in my TD, but it took some heat to do it. Glad to see you got the system worked out. I'm painting the TDs wheels and will post the finished pics soon.

Lokar makes a aftermarket shifter for the T5. It would give you a couple other options and they will be better looking.

The Mustang mount worked with a bit of adjusting. Thanks to all for the suggestions. Moving right along, Marvin

Well, I evened out the transmission mount with an ash wedge and straightened the gearshift lever with a bit of heat. Getting there, slow but sure. Thanks for all the suggestions, Marvin

Question, what thread is the two shifter handle bolts, not 5/16"-18, I'm assuming metric?

Paul, I don't have a metric gage, but the bolt head uses a 10mm socket and the treads are 20tpi. Marvin

Thanks Marvin, I just made a run to the hanger where the car is and checked it. I don't know if they're all alike but mine is M8X1.25.
