Thirty years ago my late wife gave me a walnut gearshift knob, with the octagon crest, from Moss for a present. I put it in a box when I started my project and at the moment can’t find it in my messy garage. I’m machining a lever for my T-5 and want to use that knob for sentimental reasons as it has been on the car ever since, but can’t remember what the size and thread count is on a stock MG shift lever. Would anyone happen to know what size that is?

I believe that MGBs use two different threads, 5/16"-24 on early cars (62-67) and 5/16"-18 on later cars.

Standard disclaimer - I could be wrong.

Thanks Rick, it's a '72 and 5/16"-18 sounds about right.
