Two Songs!
Although a favorite staple of their live shows, the song "MGB GT" never appeared on a Monkees studio album.
Two different versions are available on much-later Peter Tork releases... but you might not of heard those, right? Well, here's your chance to hear MGB GT online. I love it! (click here... then click on the play arrow) Here's a transcription of the lyrics: MGB GT (by Peter Tork of the Monkees) Lately my mind is drifting back To former days that used to be. I think about some folks I knew and of my MGB-GT. People let me tell you that if I had to make a recipe For fun in driving I would have to spell it MGB-GT. Cruising, using, choosing it, amusing myself without a care; Striving, thriving, hot-rod driving, not arriving anywhere. Folks, this little car of mine was like a kitten purring throatily. Sometimes it even seemed to soar into the heavens, my red MGB-GT. Tooling, fueling my good feeling, schooling me in ways to know Soaring, flooring it, adoring it, my little way to go. Folks, this little car of mine was like a kitten purring throatily. Sometimes it even seemed to soar into the heavens, my red MGB-GT. But I, I learned you have to lose some things before you treasure them,;that's how it goes. And I, I didn't give time to my car and lost my car to time; what did I know? And so life carries on, And lots of things are better now for me. And yet I think back on those golden times When I had my red MGB-GT. (I have a new appreciation of Peter Tork. I think maybe I need to order the CD.) Of course Richard Thompson (formerly of Fairport Convention) wrote and recorded an entirely different song of the same title. You might enjoy this video presentation of it: (Wow... I believe someone's MGB GT bounces around even more than mine does!) Question: how many British sports cars have been so celebrated in song? |

Re: Two Songs!
Believe it or not, there are two different MGBGT and MGB GT songs! This particular version (Live) I have never heard before but have both downloaded from iTunes. Completely different in every way- not related except for name.
Richard Thompson MGB-GT Peter Tork MGB GT If you open your iTunes player and search for mgb, you can listen to 30 seconds worth of both. -BMC. |
