L67 swap
hey guys i just picked up a 74 MGB(it needs some attention)
ive found lots of information on 3.1/3.4 swaps but very few on the 3.8SII/I, im guessing due to the 90degree heads? i have a T5 and bellhousing left over from another project(out of a wrecked 99)firebird, and my spare built up L67 motor with IS3 cam, roller rockers and frozen boost intercooler. i have a complete wireing harness and PCM for the motor. i want to swap these into the MGB. ive been reading as much as possible on the swap. theres lots of information. do the FWD motors have a machined section for the pilot bushing? does anyone have pictures of how they did the hyd. throwout bearing? and speedo issues? im the tuner for a shop that builds supercharged Wbodys so i know what i have to do pcm wise. any help would be great, or if anyones done the swap please email me |

Re: L67 swap
As I'm sure you know, this is basically the same engine as the 231 and there are a couple of those that have been done. (check out the how it was done articles) The bellhousing and other things will be different of course but in general terms it is the old 215 (or Rover) V8 with 2 cylinders lopped off, so it will fit just fine.
Can't really help with your questions but I'm very interested in seeing your progress on this, as it should be an excellent high power engine for the MGB. JB |
Re: L67 swap
thanks jim for a fast response.
ive had the SII 3.8 up to 500crank hp with a well a decent blower build, that would be way overkill for this car, whats the breaking point of this mgs dinky rear end? |

Re: L67 swap
You can get by with up to about 300 hp, maybe more depending on how you drive it. The ring gear is very close to 8" but the spiders and axle shafts are it's weaknesses. Generally 250 is considered quite safe. The BritishV8 meet is not far off, that would be an excellent time to look at axle options.
