Clutch question

I just got a tune up and my car is running great.

However, I've noticed that now when shifting to 4th gear my clutch doesn't want to grab as well.

It's almost like it can't quite keep up with the power of the engine.

My brain is telling me my clutch is going out.

My heart is hoping it's just how the car drives.

Thoughts?

That's odd, it should typically slip more in first gear...........

Sounds like your wheel budget is busted.

You're right about that. I just got a quote of $1200 to replace the clutch (if in fact that is what it is).
I guess they have to pull the entire engine out to get to it.

Argh.

So much for fun Summer driving.

Why not do it yourself? If you don't have an engine hoist you can rent one for about $25-30/day or buy one from somewhere like Northern Tool or Harbor Freight for about $130. That, a clutch, some misc. fluids, and a weekend & you'd be back on the road for under $300.

I guess I could. I've never done that type of job before.

I have this manual --- MGB Automotive Repair Manual: 1962-1980 MGB Roadster and GT Coupe With 1798 CC (110 cu in Engine) (Haynes Manuals) (Paperback).

Do you know if that is good enough? Or is there something on the web that can walk me through it.

do you have the stock 4-cylinder & tranny? If so, that will lead you through it. It's not too difficult.
