I was was wondering if these tail lights are original mgb or some aftermarket peices. If no one knows do you know the owner of this car it seems to be a euorpean racer.

This MGB GT V8 race car belongs to Jerry Richards of Flowery Branch GA (USA). I've been trying for months to recruit someone to interview Jerry and to properly document his car for our website... I can't tell what the taillights are from, but they certainly don't look like MGB parts to me. They look a little like Sunbeam taillights, but not quite...

They look close dont they. I wonder if that light was used on a more mass produced car?

Curtis, close by no cigar. Too early an Alpine, check these on a later version with the smaller fins. David Petrikas'
Tiger. I think we have a match!

I am not certain but think those look kind of like Austin America tail lenses? Maybe I am thinking other Austins or maybe the MG 1100?

Brian, I think you may be on to something. They do look very much like the lights from an Austin or MG1300 series. And those were mounted at about the same angle as the original B assembly so the reflectors would be aligned properly.

To me they look like they are from the ubiquitous Austin FX4 Black Cab. I have been thinking of using them on an MGB project for awhile. I think they would look great on an early car, maybe mounted slightly forward of vertical.

Are the MG1300 tail lights the same as a MG 1100 tail lights?

David, I looked at some photos on line that I could find of both the 1100 and 1300 and it appeared that the 1100 lights had a flat bottom similar to the MGB lamps and the 1300 were round on the bottom. It was hard to tell and there weren't many photos to compare. Matt, the shape is very similar, but I don't see the amber portion at the top in the photo of Jerry's car. Perhaps an earlier model had the all red lenses.

Hard to tell for sure, but on my screen the lenses on Jerry's car appear to have the amber top section. Given that & the angle they're mounted, my money is on the MG 1300 Mk II.
