Re: will wood brake conversion
Wilwood is highly reguarded by most. I'm not aware of a kit for MGB's direct from Wilwood, but Bill Guzman (www.classicconversionseng.com) & others have kits for the front. I'm not aware of a kit for the rear if you have an MG tube (or banjo for that matter) axle.

I'm working with an engineer & a machinist and should end up with an autocad drawing that uses the same rotor size as the kit Guzman sells. This will use the wilwood caliper with the built in hand brake on the rotor, not the drum brake. I'll let you know if it works or not, but it better 'cause I got about $2.5-3k into the brakes. so far ;-) |

Re: will wood brake conversion
Not sure how you got that deep into it William. Now that Wilwood has a caliper w/ebrake provision (vs. the type that uses the internal drum on the rotor), seems like all that's needed is a bracket that bolts on @ the axle flange?

Re: will wood brake conversion
nope 'cause you forgot you need a hat to align the rotor to the caliper. so unless you make your own hats you'll need to move the caliper one way or the other (in or out). I'm moving in towards the differential. That is the caliper I used. I could have welded it but I wanted a bolt on system.
I guess you haven't priced out wilwood parts recently have you ;-) |

Re: will wood brake conversion
you're right, i wasn't thinking about the rotor offset. i was assuming the use of some OEM type rotor though. There are plenty out there with minimal offsets vs. the 2-3" you get w/the Wilwood hats (the black anodized ones anyway). But, you do save a lot of weight with the Wilwood aluminim hats!
Back to your original question Dan, are you looking for front/rear or both? |

Re: will wood brake conversion
Thanks for the info, gentleman, I was thinking about front & rear discs. Now that there's nothing left to do on the Racine, I'll probably start picking apart by adding heavy-duty brakes, shocks, etc. I sure wish I'd have known about this web site 8 years ago! It sure would have helped! I figured out & invented a lot of stuff on my own only to find out that it's very common and there are kits you can buy. Thanks again.

Well Dan, a lot happens in 8 years. Back then a good bit of what is now available hadn't been done yet. Your car is very impressive.

Re: will wood brake conversion
I have the kit that you get from Moss. 4 pot calipers and drilled and slotted rotors with ss lines. Very impressed with the machining and fit and the stopping power is impressive. I am setting up a Tilton pedal box and will let have pictures up once that is done, probably in a month or so.
