Re: Targa Top
"That cut-up Miata hardtop is neat. However, my thoughts turned to all the discussions here and elsewhere about head trauma caused by contact with roll hoops and cages. The corner where fiberglass meets door glass may be a little close."
My thoughts also, Curtis. Still someone tried. |

Re: Targa Top
Jim - you must be clarvoint (sp). That's exactly what I had in mind!! You also included the considerations that need to be taken concerning having a top that can be fixed in place.
From an engineering point of view, the B-GT side glass (being more of a 90 degree edge) sure would make things easier in terms of getting a proper seal without jumping through a million design hoops to get there. I hadn't considered that option but with it being able to be done, I'm going to certainly look into it!!! I've drawn the base frame up idea on a CAD program and with some slight mods to the two mounting points behind the doors I should have the stiffness required to get the job done. As I'd indicated earlier, the frame would be made with 0.090" aluminum sheet and the final shape would be accomplished with fiberglass. Thanks everyone for the great input! I hope the outcome is as good as the idea!! Doug |

Keep us posted Doug, it'll be a popular option if you pull it off.

Re: Targa Top
In the 1970's the Lenham Motor Company (I think that was their full name) produced a large number of hardtops for nearly all the MG and Triumph sports cars, one of the designs was a Targa top for the MG B. The design was very similar to the 914, the only problem was that the squarish design did not sit happily on the curvaceous B.

Re: Targa Top
You used to be able to buy a targa top for an MGB. There are some pictures on the following website.

Ah yes, the Lenham Company, was located in Harrietsham in Kent...most highly revered for making the Arkley front and rear section for John Britten :-)
