ROADMASTER To the BMTA Conference?
Posted by: madmax
Date: January 25, 2013 02:25PM

ALL:

I got no response to the Roadmaster threads, so will Start a New One in hopes to get some Readers.

a) Should we try to get the Roadmaster to the BMTA conference (Feb 28 to March 2nd, Richmond VA)

b) If we hustle up on getting this diff swap done, *I* can maybe be the one to do that.

c) It would mean Steve would need to bring the car up (probably the weekend before?) so we can get the diff swap and what other niggling things done.

d) It would mean then having to get Steve back home while the car stayed up here.

And then...

e) After the conference, I would need to pass the Roadmaster off to someone else.

Is this something worth pursuing?

Max,
I can arrange to get you the car and find a way back home.
I have done nothing to it lately.
Have been working on cars I get paid to do.
It is very roadworthy.
I would drive it anywhere like it is.
In Feb I can not work on the weekend of the 8th. Grandson getting Eagle Scout.

Steve:

Tentatively, I'm thinking we try to get "The Crew" together on February 22nd (Friday), but I haven't broached it with Tim or Carl. I don't have the diff out yet so didn't want to get ahead of myself.... :-p

Max,
I can be there to help on Feb 22. If you need my help.
I should be able to get a ride back. Maybe even bring along another worker. Thinking of Tom Caine.

Bill,

Cause it whines like a supercharger.

Max,

I should be able to make it that weekend.

Steve,

Tell you grandson congrats! That's awesome!

We have an Eagle Scout in the house. I was a Scout Leader for 11 years to help get him there. Almost as much fun as coaching baseball.

You guys are doing great, sorry I haven't been around to help organize things. I think that attending the BMTA would be great if we're welcome. Can't be there in person but can send funds if necessary.

Bill:

Toby and I would just bring it as the car we drive up there! We'll let the questions fall from there... :-)

I was with Bruce Woodson this weekend.

He advises that it should be a great BMTA conference.

UPDATE:

Toby and I still intend to take the car to the Conference tomorrow, though there are some last minute woes I need to deal with today (namely, the vibration at highway speed.)

It is being Detailed tonight by a professional in hopes to make a good impression upon arrival. :-)

ALL:

Just to end this thread:

Car went to the BMTA conference (wheel vibration IS fixed, btw!). Got 15.5 mpg on the way up, 17.0 mpg on the way back. It got lots of attention, and got a premiere parking spot on it's visit to Moss Motors.

There are now other issues to fix (see Main Roadmaster thread.)

Biggest thing that gets me about having the car-- everyone assumes it's YOURS. ("Why'd you do.....?" etc.) I don't think people really understand the miracle of a "Car by Committee". :-)

Maybe we should treat it like a Top Gear (or Monty Python?) gag and we ALL just say we're from Longmont, Colorado? :-p

(The V8 Cult from Longmont).
