British V-8 gathering for 2013
Posted by: nobogez07

I have been led to believe there's a get together this summer for British V8 fans. As I understand it it's suppose to take place in Omaha sometime in early June.

Summer plans are being drawn up at the Brown household and I haven't heard back from anyone as to whether or not this is really on or just a pipe dream.

My car won't be ready but I would bring my Mini and for once in my life the get together is at least somewhat close to our home.

Can someone confirm or deny this event?

Yes, it's for real. It will be our 17th annual V8 Meet. Read all about it:

I don't know about a V8 only meet, there will be a V6 and V8 meet in Omaha, unless it has changed.

Quote:
The seventeenth annual British V8 meet will be held in and around Omaha, Nebraska from Monday June 10th through Wednesday June 13th. Participants are invited to arrive early and will be greeted with an informal dinner on Sunday (burgers, BBQ, or something like that).

Everyone is welcome!

See also the "pub" section of this message board.

There are at least two relevant threads and there probably will be more as we get closer.

I attempted to put this question out there, but I don't see it, so I'll ask again. Since I am close to Omaha, is it possible for me to come for a day to see the cars, and perhaps attend any tech session that may be held? I have a project that is in the pile-of-parts stage, with lots of ideas. Looking at a project that is finished, and in the "flesh" would bolster my confidence.
Thanks,
Dennis

Dennis, FWIW, I visited the V8 meet in Townsend in 2003 and purchased my first part to begin my conversion. I personally see no reason not to show up and browse. I'm sure you be welcomed if you bring a six-pack of beverage! :)

Personally I can't wait as I feel I know so many people and cars from just reading and asking question on this site. Then there's the matter of all the cars I've viewed in the HIWD and other sections!!

Doug, I'd had my MGB-GT for over 35 years when a family member ran across Dan Masters GT on the internet and renewed my desire to get my car back on the road with a Ford engine. I’ve learned everything I know about MG conversions from this site and the gracious group who share their successes and their bobo’s with those of us who struggle with the difficulties we face. Palestine was my first face to face and just to see the conversions I’ve read about gave me the confidence I needed to stay on my plan. If at all possible go the get together; I’m certainly glad I did.

Thanks! That settles it, I will visit, and drive my old Dodge truck with the TR6 decal in the back window. And, I will have a notebook and pencil in hand!

Dennis,

I'm driving the Tahoe as the MG is in pieces. I just hope I remember where everything goes once I start putting it back together.

I’m 70 years old, and my health won’t let me take a trip that long right now, but I’ll be there in spirit, and I’d be sure and take a camera to go along with the notebook and pencil. Basket cases have a way of getting back together, at least once you get past that “Prince of Darkness” thing any way.
