What's a bermuda top in decent condition worth?
Assume it shows its age but is in good condition structurally. Glass is fogged a bit and seals need to be replaced. Missing a clip or two so likely have to fabricate or adapt something to make it usable.

That depends on who's wearing it.

I have to admit I should have seen that one coming... but didn't.

Re: What's a bermuda top in decent condition worth?
Sorry Rob,
I just couldn't help myself! No idea what the top would be worth, but my rule of thumb is it's worthless until you sell it. So it's value is solely determined by what you are willing to pay for it. If it increases the enjoyment of your "B" and you can quantify that number then go by that. If your plan is to increase the sale value of your car then it's probably a loser. It may increase the interest or sale-ability of the car but it won't really change the actual sale value. Accessories are generally an attraction item not a value addition. But I don't think that your car is for sale anytime soon so.....that brings us right back to what you are willing to pay. I think that those tops look pretty cool and are getting awfully rare so, beat the seller up a little and pay as little as you can. Within reason. Everyone needs to make a buck, and there is a fair number for everyone in every deal. Cheers Fred |

Re: What's a bermuda top in decent condition worth?
Thanks for the input Fred. I'm not thinking about resale value. I'm thinking it'd be a good addition for the middle of the summers around here when it's hot & humid -- expecting a hard top would make the AC even more effective. And, I think cleaned up & painted body color the Bermuda top would look pretty cool on my car too.
There's a guy selling one in the Bay area & he and I are chatting. I want to be fair but also recognize I'll have to put a good bit of money into it to get it to the condition I'd want. |

Re: What's a bermuda top in decent condition worth?
Rob,
I have one I am rebuilding... we should compare notes! I have a fellow who has already made me a complete set of new "glass" using my old ones as molds... Originals were a sickly green. New will be a type of bronze. I've repainted and soon will be reupholstered with padding and headliner. Have info on possible new rubber. Key seems to be the rear fixing hardware. If it is not complete.. REAL problems. Lucky for me. I've been offered $500. Only seen 1 in excellent condition on a green MGB at MG 2012. Don B. Send me a PM and I'll give you my phone number if interested in following thru. |

Re: What's a bermuda top in decent condition worth?
Yep, that's the same as the one I was checking on. I didn't end up buying it - between what the owner wanted out of it + refurbishing + painting, I figured I'd be into about $1000 and that was more than I wanted to spend. I still think those tops look great and am keeping my eyes out for one.
