Scott, Almost there! Can you replace the bolts you ground with pan head Allens? I would use hardened washers under the heads.

Re: LS4 Into an MGB
Thanks Graham, Jim, and Mike! Just to be clear, both Artie and I will be in Indy car or no car. Our wives will even be there for a short time. It's such a fun event and the people are first class! Wouldn't miss it! Not to jinx anything but the car is where I hoped it would be at this point so I'm optimistic it will be ready too.
Jim, I'm not quite sure I understand your question. The picture I took shows the back of the flywheel and you're looking at one of the pressure plate bolts before any grinding took place. One of the starter bolts just happened to occupy the same place that the pressure plate bolts do. What bolts are you referring to? |

Re: LS4 Into an MGB
Scott, I didn't see the shiny spot by the ring gear and assumed the pressure plate bolt heads were rubbing. Looking forward to your first test spin!

Re: LS4 Into an MGB
Scott,
Photo's of 98 S70 Volvo fan with relay! Photo's should give you an idea of dimensions, that maybe can work with your application. About 17 1/2' width across furthest. 2 speed relay! Mounting would need some spacer away from radiator for fan blade...maybe 1/2" Total from out most fan blade center to fan motor is 3 3/4" or less |

Re: LS4 Into an MGB
That's the same fan & relay pack I'm using. It's never even gone to high speed even in Texas heat with the A/C on. I can definitely recommend it if the Lincoln one won't fit.

Re: LS4 Into an MGB
Thanks for the suggestions Calvin & Rob. Calvin, I'll be in touch with you next week.
Artie was in and we had a great time as usual. I really want to thank him for all his help! He's a really good friend and a great guy. We got a lot of work done on the car. We didn't get it out on a long run like we hoped but we are very close now. We did do a short first run and got a couple of videos showing it. Here is the drive by. The car is still rough in this video but it was very fun getting it out even for a few minutes. Can I officially call this a V8 car now? As I said, we got a lot of work done. The throttle pedal is in and adjusted, the PCM is installed permanently, the new fuel pump is finally installed and the radiator ducting is well on it's way to being complete. I have a distinct lack of pictures and I apologize for that...just too busy working to get things done. I didn't even get a picture of Artie! I still have a few things to do besides completing the radiator ducting: o Fix a pesky leak at the thermostat housing o Adjust the tach for the V8 (the PCM actually puts out a 4 cylinder signal I'm told) o Put the interior back together and clean things up o Do a bunch of minor tasks here and there Here is the current state of the engine bay as of last night. I'm very hopeful for the meet. It seems like the odds favor the car being ready for Indy unless something major goes wrong. It will NOT be "done" at all. There will be incomplete things that will need to be redone. Everything I'm doing now is just to make it as reliable as possible. I really need to get it out on the road and put a few hundred miles on it. Hopefully next weekend. Scott |
Re: LS4 Into an MGB
Scott that is pretty awesome!! You are just about ready to run with the "big boys" now.
If I ever do another project it might be an LS4 in to a TR4 or TR4a. You are blazing a path for others to follow. Thanks for the detailed thread on this topic. Cheers Byron |

Re: LS4 Into an MGB
Scott, thanks for allowing me to participate in your build experience. It's a pleasure working with you. Hang in there. When I'm back in 5 weeks, we'll finish up the important details you haven't gotten a chance to address & I'll do the detailing of the car for you. After all, she must look her best.
I thought we fixed the leaky thermostat? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/09/2015 08:31PM by MGBGT?. |

Re: LS4 Into an MGB
I'm still grinning Calvin! :)
Thanks Byron, it's fun to share it with fellow car guys. Oh, I took your advice and adjusted the throttle cable support so the angle isn't so severe. Artie, yeah, so did I. I looked after we started it yesterday morning and it's leaking slightly again. I'ii try to tighten it again to see if that helps. If not its on to plan B. :) |

Re: LS4 Into an MGB
By the way... talk about a sleeper. Looks totally stock. Even looked like single exhaust - or at least both exiting the left side. You are going to surprise a lot of folks :)

Re: LS4 Into an MGB
Scott,
That is correct about your Tach being switch to a 4 cylinder. This is what mine is set to. We are both using the same computer. Is your engine hunting for idle as soon as your car starts rolling? In one of your video's, I though thats what I heard? We could maybe fix that in your tune! |

Re: LS4 Into an MGB
Thanks everyone. Jim B., I hope I can give some rides next month.
Quote: Calvin, I didn't think that was happening but you could be right. Keep in mind that the video was taken on Friday afternoon before most of the work was done. We replaced the fuel pump and updated the wiring in the tank as well early on Sunday. When we started it for the first time after all the work on Monday morning, just before Artie left, it ran like a different engine. We're still very early into the sorting out phase. I will keep everyone informed. Please keep the comments coming, I appreciate your insight! |
