MGB - inner fender template to cut holes for RV8 style exhausts
Hi guys - getting round to cut the holes in the inner fenders for the RV8 style exhausts to exit and wondered if anyone had a template / approx measurements to save me from getting it wrong and performing my normal "hatchet job"

Re: MGB - inner fender template to cut holes for RV8 style exhausts
John, there are so many variables you probably need to provide more information -- like whether you have a BOPR variant motor or something else & whether the motor mounts & headers you used came from one of the typical suppliers. Even with that it may be a long shot.

Re: MGB - inner fender template to cut holes for RV8 style exhausts
John,
If it helps you out, when I had the holes cut for my RV8 headers, all my body man and I did was have the engine installed and slowly lowered the headers while he cut out (with a plasma cutter) gradually larger holes around the header until the size was correct when the header was in place. Here's a pic of the finished product. |
Re: MGB - inner fender template to cut holes for RV8 style exhausts
Thanks guys for replying - DUH!! - where was my brain - yes I should have given some more info like the type of engine (Rover 4.2) / headers type / engine positioning - you are quite correct, quite a few variables as to where the headers will exit.
Great picture Simon - thanks, this gives me a good starting point and yes I think that lowering the engine and working the exit hole from there is perhaps the best approach. Thanks again - John |

Here's a glimpse of what the holes look like on British Motor Heritage reproduction RV8 panels:

Somewhere I have a template for the RV8 header adaptation needed for a BOPR....I'll try to find it.

Re: MGB - inner fender template to cut holes for RV8 style exhausts
Hello All,
I am a new member with a 1966 MGB Roadster V8 conversion project I bought from a friend. He has done all the engine compartment mods and bought RV8 style exhaust headers for the Rover 3500/SD-1 conversion project, so I am keenly interested in those templates for the exit holes. Please let me know who has them and how I might get them. Also, the areas of the engine compartment over the original lever shocks, which need to be modified for clearance, were removed, completely. Since it looks like a fairly complex, compound curved area, anyone have any suggestions for filling them in? I am not a great metal fabricator, so I'm wondering if there are engine compartment sheet metal replacement parts available. Moss Motors doesn't carry them. Thanks, Ken. |

Re: MGB - inner fender template to cut holes for RV8 style exhausts
Ken, send a pic of the area you need. I got the inner fenders from a car that was being parted out; if the part you need isn't the part I'm using, you can have them for the cost of shipping.
