I got my drivetrain!
I picked up a 1998 Camaro over the weekend. Inside that swollen body is a modified LS1, a good T56 and a bunch of parts I can resell. The plan is to fold, spindle and mutilate it, then stick the good bits inside the GT. It's pretty fun to drive already. It's going to be so much better once it's lost nearly 1000 lbs! |

Re: I got my drivetrain!
Dillards sells Camaro's?
:) Looks as though you'll be able to turn the body after you pull the drivetrain! |

Re: I got my drivetrain!
I might be able to sell it as a rolling chassis. It's not a show queen, but it would be an excellent platform for someone who dreams of big blocks.

Ahh!! Frank has a cousin. You may notice the family resembleance in the hoods.
Looks like a great start Keith, we'll want pics of how that huge 6 speed fits the tunnel in your B. |

Re: I got my drivetrain!
My wife demanded mall time after we picked up the car, thus the Dillards in the shot :) The Camaro is actually her car as the MG is for her use.
The T56 isn't that much larger than the Miata transmission, and I know that swap's been done a few times. So I'm not too worried. But we'll see. This poor little MG is in for a lot of work I suspect. |

Re: I got my drivetrain!
It's going into my 1972 GT. The biggest problem I have with selling off parts from the car is that there are very few F bodies around here and I know what shipping companies will do to body panels. I might simply sell off the chassis as a roller.
The MG needs to be stripped down first, then I have to fit the new suspension. The drivetrain won't be installed for some time I suspect. I'm currently driving the car. Great powerplant and transmission, crap car. |

Re: I got my drivetrain!
Lotsa work. My '71 GT has an early model 350 four bolt motor. Still workn on
which transmission I want. Depending on where you set the motor in the bay, the car decides for you how much cutting to do. It's tight everywhere. Plan on doing some tunnel work. Leaning towards a 700R4, I've tried a T-5, a M20 Muncie, and a TH350. It's a matter of picking your poison so to speak. Rubber bumper MGBs take the GM V-8 and trans with minimum mods to the bay, not so with the chrome bumper cars. Speaking from experience here on both. |
