Sometime back Don expressed an interest in my now dormant 3800 build that is in part inspired buy his build which is documented on the BRITISHV8 Photo Gallery in this site. Don was in the early stages of a 4,500-mile road trip and stopped for a visit at my home in Colorado last month. We had a great visit that lasted a couple of hours. In addition to being the same age we had a lot in common. We talked about the 3800 being rated as one of the top 10 engines ever built and our builds in general. Since his initial build Don has done some upgrades. The most notable change was swapping the stock 3.9 MG rear axle for a higher ratio Jeep Dana 44 and converting to rear disc brakes while keeping his wire wheel hub to Minilite adapters. Before he left, Don let me drive his car while he followed in my Ford pushrod 3.0 V6 powered MGB. He said he wouldn't mind if I pushed his 3800 pretty hard. We drove a couple of miles on the freeway and I did excelerate the 3800 pretty hard whenever I had the chance. The exhaust had a nice rumble to it and I could definitely feel the 50 more HP and impressive torque the 3800 put out.

Don's next stop was an overnight in Wyoming and then on to Washington state with several stops for family and friends in between. When he got back to California and home last week he texted me and said that everything went well with no incidents. The car worked well and he cruised 75 to 80 mph most of the time on the freeways.

Don,thank's for stopping by. After driving your 3800 I'm getting a renewed interest in finishing mine.
