New Project
Picking up a 77 MGB this week that I am going to be fitting with a Ford 302 and a T5 . Following that I will do a chrome bumper conversion. Also going to lower the car.
I have already spoken with Pete Mantell and will be using one of his kits for the engine swap . What a nice guy , took a lot of time on the phone with me to explain the process and emailed me a bunch of reference material . People like him are why I enjoy this hobby so much. Now my question , this car has a very nice running engine that according to the seller has been rebuilt in the past 4000 miles. It also has an overdrive transmission . I have a friend that is interested in both the engine and transmission . What would be a fair price for both ? We're talking crank pulley to tailshaft and everything in between . Appreciate any input. Pete Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/05/2025 11:31AM by petewolff. |
Re: New Project
I have the engine and transmission sold on a handshake deal.
Next questions , is there a "Stow Away Top" available for a 1977 MGB ? And has anyone used an aftermarket kit to rewire their MGB vs stock type replacement wiring ? Since I am using a non stock engine and gauges I'm thinking that the universal kit should work just as well . Any thoughts appreciated Pete |

Re: New Project
With the correct frame, you can use any of the three tops.
Any chance you were in the J. Geils Band? I loved their bluesier numbers. |
Re: New Project
Funny you should mention that .
I grew up in Greenwich CT and while I am not That Peter Wolff the J. Geils Band did play in the student center of my high school in the early 70's before they hit it big . So what is the correct frame for a 77 with a Stow Away top ? Also I tripped over Advance Auto Wire while searching around the web . They make a kit specifically for the conversion that I am doing and although it's expensive it seems like the perfect option for me . Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/17/2025 08:57AM by petewolff. |

Re: New Project
I believe all the stowaway frames are the same.
There is a scissors frame, stowaway/packaway frame, & the Micholetti frame. They will all fit any year MGB. They do require the correct top for each. |

Re: New Project
Robbins, Prestige, Coventry & maybe more are manufacturers. They can be purchased thru Moss or at a discount thru Moss resellers at a discount. Buying during Moss sales via Little British Car Co. will save some bucks.
I think Rimmer Bros. in the UK still sells some frames. |
