My MGB GTV8 last Sunday on a test run
I took my car out last weekend to try the new slicks. I know I need more pressure in them after seeing pictures of my launches. I managed a new PB of 11.29 on the 1/4 which I'm very happy with.

Wow Perry, i believe i see air under the left front tire and the rear side walls are sure wrinkled . Looks like it hooks real well. Its great to see someone get some traction.

Re: My MGB GTV8 last Sunday on a test run
Thanks Kelly
It sure was an interesting day. The first launch was really wild with around 9" of air under the tyre in the 60 feet zone. I gradually adjusted the nitrous controller to smooth out the launch and deliver more power a little later. As the wheelstands got lower, the ET's improved. We ran 11.66 11.51 11.39 and 11.29 on the four runs on sunday. I'm hoping to be back out for a test and tune day on 4th April. I'm going to stick with the 200 shot of gas and adjust tyres and boost control throughout the day to see if I can get closer to a flat 11 second pass. Folk dont believe that I still run a stock 4.6 and all stock MGB V8 suspension and axle.(apart from a welded diff) But I do :)) Regards Perry |

They don't call 'em wrinkle walls for nothing!
Hope you have rim screws. How much air are you running, about 8 lbs? M/Ts like a bit more air than most other brands. |

Re: My MGB GTV8 last Sunday on a test run
Hi all!
I'm back again. I've now modified my nitrous system so I have a separate set of solenoids for each bank of the engine. The power delivery is much smoother now and it will handle a lot more gas than the old setup. I was out last weekend doing some tuning. We had a few issue to work through and the weather was foul. I have increased my nitrous to a 250 shot now, but I'm having a little trouble getting the ignition timing just right for high rpm at the end of the runs. She now runs repeatable 11.2's so I'm happy that my 10.99 is on the horizon for the end of this year. This was my last run of the day where I decided to up the start power to see how well these tyres would hook. Luckily the track photograhper had his high speed cam with him and did a nice video of the launch. No sound though! Nothing happens until 30 seconds in. This is where the bug catcher opens it mouth for food. [www.youtube.com] Regards Perry |

Perry,
What are you doing in here, now you know where I get some of my information from! Great slomo, really shows how the chassis is reacting to the the torque off the line, I'm not that well up on chassis tuning for drag racing but it looks like you need to get a bit more spring or damping rate into the right hand rear to resist it sitting down too much at that corner, no doubt others more experienced will comment. Re: My MGB GTV8 last Sunday on a test run
Hi Kev!!
Fancy finding you all the way over here. I'm on here because of Curtis very kindly asking for me to post up some info on my car a while back. She has come on a way since then. I'm just in from the garage after laying under the car for a few mins. I have a quick fix to try. New rubber bump stop on the driver side rear. And remove the bumpstop pedestal so I can fit a long spacer to it. This will give me only 2" of downward travel before the rubber starts to take some of the load. On the other side I'm fitting a new beefy check strap. Not ideal I know. But it will give me a baseline to work from. I just want to get back on the track to try it out asap. Ideally I'll get to Santapod on 30th May for a quick RWYB day. Then its North Weald to meet you lot before prepping for the big 10 second attempt at the Pod on 12th July. I like it in here Kev. I browse quite often and pick up some good tips. Perry |

Now I'm really getting worried LOL. Whatever you do make it easily reversable, you need to be careful that the check strap doesn't actually pick up the left hand rear leaving traction only on the RH rear as that could have some nasty results direction wise. New you frequented this board occasionally, their a great bunch of guys and always use ful to have other opinions. I.ve been meaning to get some new decent pics of my car and do a how it was done for the archive section. Kevin. |
