A new PB on the 1/4 mile today

No cigar or fat lady singing re the 10.99 second pass. But I did PB's for the first 3 runs of today. The best being 11.08 @ 124.84mph.

This pass actually had two PB's in it. I've hit my goal of the 100mph 1/8th mile speed.
7.1 seconds to 100mph :)

The last few runs were aborted due to me experimenting with settings and the traction just dying off between 3pm and 5pm. Oh! and the gas running out.

I'm still happy though. She's back home in one piece and she lives to fight again at North Weald in 2 weeks time.

The slight beefing up of the rear suspension has done something though. Its made the power transfer to the rear a bit quicker. But, it also started developing some tyre shake and she has become difficult to keep straight in the first 100 feet or so. So now its time to start tinkering again ready for the next outing.
My 0.3 of a second reduction to reach the 10.99 goal has now dropped to 0.09 of a second.
I really thought I was going to bag it today.

And the good news is. I PB'd on less gas. The first 11.08 today was with a 200 shot at 123mph. The second 11.08 was with a 225 shot but at nearly 125mph.
I have previously been running a 250 shot. But I found a small problem with the feed to one of my solenoids. So I sorted that and took 50hp off for the baseline run today. How nice it is to run a PB straight off the trailer eh  :D

Oh well!
Back to the drawing board eh?

I have now made up some anti tramp / slapper bars. I was going to buy some, but I was quoted £140.00??

I got down to the metal market and bought some stuff. It took me 2 hours to weld up these items for a few £££'sss

So a few hours and £25 later I get these things bolted on for a trial fit.

That looks like a good use for a bump stop rubber!

Good luck on your next run.

Thanks David.
Most of the stuff I make is found lying around. I knew I would find a use for these one day :)

That's kind of the way I do things. We may be kindred spirits of sorts, though all of my racing was on the back roads (don't do that sort of thing any more ;-). It's good to see someone proving that there cars really can put the power to the pavement though.

Thanks for the kind words Jim!
I've got a library pic of your car on my PC.. She looks sweeet!!!

I'm taking mine out to an old airfield next Sunday for Drag Trials to see how this modification works. Then I have exactly 1 month to install a few more Junk yard parts that have been cut up and re worked so I can show her off on the 1/4 mile to see if I can bag that 10 second pass.

I'm looking at making a sort of reverse bump stop for the passengers side to limit lift due to body roll.
My thinking is:
Slapper bars on the springs.
Limited downward travel on the drivers side with a raised bump stop pedestal.
Limited upward travel on the other side with an old 57 Mustang drop link fixed to the axle case, but running / sliding through a clamp mounted to the chassis rail.
So she will drive ok with a couple inches of travel up and down, but when the body starts to roll she will hit the end of the drop link and then have an inch of hard rubber to rest on.

That's the theory anyway :)

It could work! Or it could go horribly wrong??

Either way I hope to capture the moment on slow mo video in July...

Perry

Final trial fit today. All I need to do now is weld up some old exhaust U clamps onto the things as rebound clamps and I'm good to go.
I found some old "cotton reel" exhaust mounts that fitted ok by just drilling and tapping the bars so I could screw them in. I used some "evo stick" adhesive to bond them on to those bars.
Once fitted I ground off the studs on the top side and they look almost like they were meant to be there huh??
