Buick 215 con rods
I recently purchased a Buick 215 motor to put into my TR7. It was completely disassembled when I bought it. The problem is the connecting rods and pistons are not stamped or marked as to which cylinder they came out of and the caps are not oriented on the rods the same way on all of them. The guy I bought the motor from claims the caps went back on the same rods. Is there any way I can orient the caps correctly. Is it critical that the rods do go back into the same cylinders?

Re: Buick 215 con rods
Each rod needs to be matched to its own cap, but IMHO it's not critical that the rods stay matched to specific cylinders. Looking carefully at the honed surfaces, can you match up the honing marks?
Have a look at this article. I think it contains some good advice and background info on this subject: [www.britishv8.org] p.s. this message really belongs in our "Drivertrain Issues" forum. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/05/2008 01:38PM by Moderator. |

The article Curtis mentions will help you orient the rods & caps. Then, take them to a machine shop & have them resized.
