TR8 manual transmission mount
My latest TR8 was purchased as a basket case. I have found most parts but one that may be missing is the manual transmission mount. This looks to be a TR8 only item, can a TR7 mount be used and if so what modifications are required?

Re: TR8 manual transmission mount
The TR7 and TR8 use different trans mounts.

Bill, you should check with TR8TODD. He has lots of parts and insight, and he is up New England way. He can tell you what mods you can do.

Re: TR8 manual transmission mount
Looking at the responses I realized I used an incorrect description. The part that may be missing is the transmission cross member, not the mount.

Re: TR8 manual transmission mount
The TR7 and TR8 mounts are slightly different. Coincidentally, yesterday, I was working in the driveway on my daughters car when my wife came outside with a TR8 trans crossmember in her hand. Seems she wanted it removed from her three season front porch. It made it as far as the entrance to my garage, and is sitting on top of a freshly rebuilt 4.6. I can snap some photos of both if need be. The TR7 one can be used and I have at least a couple of TR8s out there now that have the TR7 trans mount instead of the TR8 mount. The TR8 mount has a slight swept back appearance and places the trans mount at a slightly different position. Every wedge body is different. I'm convinced that when they were building these things, the engine and trans were raised into the body shell as a unit. The engine subframe bolts were cinched up and wherever the tranny mount lined up, thats where they drilled the holes in the body for the bolts. There are reinforcement plates in the floor where these bolts pass thru. Look at any wedge and there is no constancy as to where the holes fall on that plate. I've done several V8 conversions on 4 cylinder body shells. The mounts never line up and I always end up drilling 4 new holes. You also can mount the engine on either side of the subframe mounts. This gives you another 3/8 to 1/2" of forward and aft play. Stock location had the engine brackets mounted in front of the subframe brackets, but I tend to mount the engine brackets in back of the subframe brackets. In my mind that extra 1/2" moving the engine back helps a little with center of gravity.

Re: TR8 manual transmission mount
When I did my TR7V8 conversion back in 2011, I used the stock TR7 bracket and just drilled 4 new holes. I then welded a brace plate over the new holes (also closing off the old ones) and then just drilled through the four new holes and up through the brace plate. Worked perfectly.
