Hello a lot has transpired since my first posting. The rearend issues have been worked out and it has been fully upgraded with new springs, u-joints, tube shocks, poly bushings, welded and reinforced diff mounts, and Good adjustable swing arm brackets. No more problems with that rubbing tire. I also bought a Lincoln 180 amp mig welder and I am learning how to weld!!
I have located an appropriate engine a 2006 Pontiac G6 3.5 Liter V6 that has 30000 km and I want to pick it up later this week. This engine is perfect for the TR6 it has 205 hp and 220 ftlb of torque and is quite economical on gas. The conversion kit is through British Car Conversions in West Carrollton Ohio their website is [killerbv6.com]
These guys have a bell housing to fit this engine to a Ford T5 transmission and they have other goodies to make this conversion work. They also do conversions for people and most of the stuff they have done is on MGB's. My question to you guys is do any of you know about these people and their work? I live in Calgary Alberta Canada so I need to get an idea if these guys are for real as I will be ordering these parts from them.
I have attached a photo of this engine that has been converted. They claim that this engine puts out more like 235 hp rather than the 205 hp. When I saw this engine I got a bad case of engine lust!!

Alan from what I know the only conversions they have done are for MGB's and TR3. They sell kits for the MGB. I have gleaned this from their website. I am presently doing the e-mail thing with them right now to find out more on the technical aspects of converting the engine from FWD to RWD. I will have to buy the t5 ( they have modified the endshaft to fit the 3.5 engine) from them along with the bell housing. They also supply headers and other stuff for GM v6 engines.
I have looked at the Bowtie website and his TR6 has an older V6 out of a Camaro, these engines have cast iron heads, whereas the newer FWD V6 engines have aluminum heads.

If you buy the LY7 engine from the CTS, it's already RWD. It's also higher output - 260+ hp. I've seen them as low as $1500 for a low mileage pullout on eBay.

The hardest part is getting a manual box - in that case, they cost as much again as the engine. If you don't care, the auto tranny combo isn't too bad $ wise, you already have a RWD setup, and I'm told (from a guy who did one but then fell off the map) that it fits w/o cutting into a 6 (manual tranny - no idea about the auto box).

I just looked - you can get an engine for $1500 and an auto tranny for $450 on eBay. That's a pretty compelling combination. If you want a stick a new AY6 is about $1200 and up.
