Wedge Tree
I dont know what it is but these TR8s just call to me and then show up on my door step! I got a package deal for two wedges; a TR8 coupe and TR7 convertible for a few hundred bucks and turns out about $1000.00 in new old stock and upgrade parts!
This TR8 coupe was sold new in New Jersey to a couple then sold to the current owner with 7200 miles in 1984. That is what is on the title. Now the car has 47,000 miles and besides the distributor is 100% original less tires! The nose is completly rotted but only the header panel. Everything else is surface rust. The convertible TR7 is a 1980 with 87,000 miles and it is very solid with original paint. It has a NOS 1981 5 Speed 10,000 miles ago. I am sure it could become a driver with some front end rework. |
Re: Wedge Tree
Know a source for the flexible hose from the front of the 8 to the air cleaner by any chance?
And a blanking plate for the back half of that splitter you can see (to the manifolds I'm guessing). |

Re: Wedge Tree
I will look and see. I know that people have found good replacements. There were two types used on the stock TR8s. One of all plastic and metal cords and the other of cloth as shown above with metal cords. I need more info on the "And a blanking plate for the back half of that splitter you can see (to the manifolds I'm guessing)."

Re: Wedge Tree
The chunk of metal that hangs down from the airbox.
It has two inlets, one frontwise to the cold air intake, the other rearwards to I'm guessing the manifolds with what looks like a piece of asbestos inside to act as some kind of deflector. I was thinking of putting it back (to make it look more stock) but blanking off the back half rather than leaving it open to the engine bay. |

Re: Wedge Tree
The hot air flapper. Man I just tossed about 5 of those things! The also fit MGB with the zenith stromberg, Spitfire & Midget. Dist cheap used but the padding inside is usually gone.

Re: Wedge Tree
I got to look over the coupe and it is incredibly solid! The nose panel is semi-cut off and besides the surface rust it is all there and will be an easy fix! A close look at it has a hair over 40K.

Re: Wedge Tree
UPDATE: The car now runs! All it neded back in 1990 to keep it on the road was a new set of buick points and condensor. The water chokes on the Zeniths work perfectly. A few exhaust leaks and well small things and the nose panel and spring time driver!
