New member, check out my site for my '69 Gt6
Hello all, I am in the process of converting my 1969 Triumph Gt6 to Ls1 power with a 6 speed manual (T56). Check out my website at Ls1Gt6.com. I update it alot and have lots of pictures and hopefully some helpful hints. Let me know what you think, I will hopefully be posting here quite a bit with questions and maybe even some answers.

Nice project Jon,
If you need more room on the front of the engine for clearance, I went ahead and changed the dampaner balancer pully over to the Corvette style and all accessories. That will give you about an inch or so closer to the block with all pullies. Your 2001 engine I believe has the LS6 intake. "Great choice in engine" This is why through research I ended up with the same engine. I like the looks of those wheels...Nice! |

Thanks for the info about the balancer, I am pretty good with clearance on the front end, the height of the fuel rails was my challenge, but I got it figured out. Yeah, 2001 Ls1's are about the best you can come by unless you hold out for a GTO motor, at least we have better intake, rod bolts, oil pump, etc. Are you planning on modifying your engine eventually? I was thinking of a cam swap and maybe some other small changes, I'd like the think to idle rough so it sounds a little more Triumph-ish.

Re: New member, check out my site for my '69 Gt6
I figured on getting the engine running first, tuned right, then maybe later get the cam sound or go turbo. On the sound subject, I think the sound will be more Cobra like with the LS1. These engines have their own sound.
I almost went with the Ls2 but didn't want to pay around 7 or 8k for the engine + T56. Even thought of picking up a totalled GTO but was looking at 8 to 13k for the whole car. If the whole car route, then ending up with a body shell to get rid of plus the space to keep it. Also was looking at the Engine Factory with interest on the 351W, weight issue the Ls1 wins + fuel injection for better gas mileage. If camed, the Ls1, probably go for torque rather than high end horse power. Some good threads on LS1 tech for research stickies. Depends on what the car will be used for,(Soooo many setups out there for this engine). There is alot of freebie mods that can be done on TB and other parts with stock setups(listed on LS1 tech). You will be in for a treat with just your stock Ls1 in your GT6 :-) I happen to live right across the street from a 15 year GM recycle employee that knows these engines + has connections with the computer tunners. So needless to say I hear alot of 400+ hp sounding LS1's around my house. He has a four car garage with a 2 post lift. He does diagnose the LS1 in his garage for people, so I found someone that can help me with the LS1. Cheers! Brenda too (my wife felt neglected) Edited 1 time(s). Re: New member, check out my site for my '69 Gt6
I was out of town for a while, so sorry I didn't respond sooner. I have a friend that is a Turbonetics dealer who said he could get me a deal on a turbo if i decide to go that route, maybe down the road. I think Ls1 vs the Ls2 is fine for our small cars, teh displacement advantage is negligible and the ls1 will probably make more than enough torque anyhow. I am figuring on doing some things for hp or RPM and sacrificing some low end torque becuase I think it'll make hooking up a little easier. It's going to be a learning process too. My friend ordered some stainless for me so i need to swing by his place and get to work on my headers, that'll be fun i'm sure. I'll keep posting and updating the website now that I am back.

I am woundering what you ar going to use for a rear end axels and hubs and brakes?
Having raced GT 6's and a Vettese 6 cylinder with 220 on the dyvo back in 1973-4. what we did worked ad still workes today. |

Re: New member, check out my site for my '69 Gt6
I am going with a narrowed (obviously) Ford 9" in the rear, 3.70 gear ratio and for brakes I think i am going to use some Wilwood disks with the built in drum parking brake, I know I could go with a smaller Ford rear but the 9" just has too many parts available and it should be pretty indestructable, I didn't feel like trying to piece together an i.r.s. system and this way i can run the wider tires i bought 275s more easily

How about the best of both worlds?
A 9" Ford third member and an IRS setup? [www.kitcarmag.com] Your right, it would be a lot of work! |
