TR7 V8 powered by Ford?

Does anyone have any knowledge about fitting a small block Ford V8 into a TR7 for racing?
I was going to go with a Rover 4.6l but the costs are stacking up and Ford V8's are relatively inexpensive and, with aluminum heads, not that much heavier.
A Mustang T5 is sitting in my workshop waiting for a new home.
Any tips and tricks would be appreciated.
Mark

What kind of racing? What do the class rules allow?

Hi Curtis.
No restrictions other than a "technology" cut-off which would restrict late model quad cams and EFI systems.
Old tech V8s welcome and it's the kind of technology I understand from the good old daze.
Cheers.

Based on the limited responses to this old thread, I may not find pictures of Ford 302 motor mount designs for my TR7. I was searching, and hoping. LOL.

There is a guy one town over from me that is installing a 302 in his TR7. I've been helping with technical advice and spare parts, but he is doing all the work himself. He just finished making a new subframe out of square stock. Mounts up to the stock bolts and uses the TR7 underpinnings and struts. It uses the Mustang rack because he wanted to go with power steering and needed to get the rack out of the way of the oil pan.

Neat to hear that. I just ordered a spare pan to cut up to clear my stock steering rack. So far, I'm planning on the stock TR7 subframe.

I've got it set in there as far back as I can get it, and the waterpump shaft is well into the radiator area. Even a short waterpump will be too long. I'll have to angle the bottom of the radiator forward I suppose.

I don't want to hack my hood, so air cleaner clearnance is another challenge. I think I'm good with where I have it sitting now. The sump of the pan is hanging a bit below my subframe (maybe 3/4"). I'd rather have it higher, but I need an air cleaner!

The TR8 radiator slanted forward. There are already mounting holes in the frame rails forward of the TR7 mounts. Build your own brackets to mount the TR7 lower support up there or source a TR8 radiator cage.

Thanks for the tips. I just got headers, and I'm working on a motor mount plan. It would be much easier if I didn't need a steering rack. I'm contemplating starting from scratch on a new sub frame.
