69 spitfire

As I get closer to finishing up my 58 MGA I am starting to focus on my 69 spitfire (I know, one thing at a time...) which has been sitting in a garage for 20 years. I bought this from my brother and don't really know anything about it. My brother thinks there is something special about a 69 spitfire mark 3 with overdrive. I would be reluctant to drop a v8 in a spitfire which, unlike the MGA, is not a basket case if there is actually something special about it. Prices online are very low so there does not seem to be any real collector value to them. Welcome any thoughts.

Spitfire values are a double edged sword , no matter what you do to them they will not be worth huge money but you also wont kill the value if you do tastful mods and a well sorted V8 spitfire can very easily be worth more than an equal condition stock spitfire.
as a plus, if you do decide to switch to a V8 you will have a MK3 engine with OD tranny to sell to recoup some of your money

Really appreciate the input. Will go classy but more power is always better. Thanks

Mark III Spitfires do fetch very good money over here, but only if they are concourse or in very good original condition otherwise it is just a Spitfire and there are plenty of them around.

I'm a member of the Triumph Sports Six Club over here, have a look at their website www.tssc.org.uk/ and you will get an idea of prices over here, not sure what they make in the USA though.
