Little British Cars with big engines rule!
I haven't been on the forum in a while but I had to share this. I went to the Good Guys All American Sunday in Loveland, Colorado on June 9th. They allow newer American and American powered cars enter the event on Sunday. Being the opportunist that I am, I entered my 2.3 Turbo Ford powered Spitfire in the autocross. I love suprising all those Detroit muscle guys. I won the event with a final run of 46.45 seconds. There were some cool prizes too! A set of BFG G-Force tires, which arrived earlier this week, and some other gift certificates. Here are related links you may enjoy.
A video of my third run: [www.youtube.com] An article about the event: [www.rodauthority.com] Cheers, Max Brewster Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/27/2013 01:20PM by turbospitfire. |

Re: Little British Cars with big engines rule!
Well done! Congratulations.
(I would have been there too, but it conflicted with our annual meet.) |

Re: Little British Cars with big engines rule!
We should get together... are there still "Cars and Coffee" meet-ups in Lafayette? Or maybe at the ColoRodan's car show in Longmont? (July 27-28)

Re: Little British Cars with big engines rule!
I don't know. I can't make this weekend, I have company coming in. There is Golden Super Cruise on July 6th. I have been very busy with all kinds of things. I also built a hot rod so the Spit has been a little neglected. This event was the first time I have had it on a road trip in a long time. Maybe sometime we can get a few of us together for a drive some where.

Re: Little British Cars with big engines rule!
I drove down to Colorado Springs for breakfast with the Little British Car Club last Friday. It was a good time... although a long way to go for breakfast, especially on a weekday. James Spradlin had his MGB 3.4L V6 there, but otherwise the cars were pretty stock. (One early Spitfire, a very nice TD, two MGAs, and four or five MGBs...) Of course, next summer the BritishV8 meet will be in Colorado Springs. Don't miss that!!!

Re: Little British Cars with big engines rule!
Hi Max,
Well done indead! Good driving. I had another look at your car in the Photo Gallery of Performance-Upgraded Triumph Sports Cars here on British V8. You've got a well engineered car there. Goodguys Autocrossing. That's a fun time. Lots of gorgeous cars and good comradery. I participated in the Nashville event in 2011. Here's what I wrote about it: [forum.britishv8.org] Here's what Popular Hot Rodding Magazine wrote about it: [tinyurl.com] At the time, they didn't have the "Sunday Class" for 1973 and up. Running up against Kye Tucker, Kevin Miller and Brian Finch keeps a person on their toes. In 2011 everyone was running tires like Kumho XS with a tread wear of 140. I was still using my Falken 300 tread wear tires. So the next year, I was looking to participate again and sporting the much improved performing Kumhos. Well, didn't they go and change the rules to make it a minimum 200 tread wear tire...... Max, why did they list your car as a 1979 Pontiac? (go to "Goodguys 16th Colorado Nationals", "2013 autocross results" from this link): [www.good-guys.com] |

Re: Little British Cars with big engines rule!
Thanks Ken, back at you on a well engineered car. This was the first time I autocrossed this car since the swap many years ago. I used to run autocross, a lot, many years ago so I guess it comes back.
Curtis, I'll plan on the event next summer for sure. Let me know if you need help with the event. |

Ken, I had them correct it in the article but didn't see the mistake in the results. I think I'll email them again!

Well driven, very smooth. I want to take my car to the Good Guys in Del Mar next spring (after it's done).

Re: Little British Cars with big engines rule!
Max, you mentioned you were doing a lot of autocrossing in the past. What were you driving mostly at that time?
As you know, smooth is fast. Here's a run that doesn't look too dramatic but turned out to be one of the faster times of the day: I thought the person making the video did a fine job. |

Re: Little British Cars with big engines rule!
Very nice Ken. When I was in college in the 60's I used to autocross my MGB and often Elliot Forbes-Robinson (for those of you old enough to remember) would show up with his 912 Porsche. The thing was disgustingly stock and he never looked like he was going fast at all but he would almost always take top time of the day. His brother had a 427 Cobra that he would drive once in a while and nobody even came close. Funny thing is it always looked like he was on a reconisance (sp?) lap because there was never any drama - just looked like he was out for a Sunday drive. I love watching talented drivers and wish I were one.

Re: Little British Cars with big engines rule!
I've had some respectable autocross times, but somewhere along the way I must have gone off course because I absolutely jettisoned the whole concept of winning Fastest Time in favor of pursuing Most Fun. For me, when driving a small light car with a massively big engine on a tight little course, M/F usually seems to devolve into adolescent silliness. I try to keep a straight face but almost inevitably by the last turn I'm howling with laughter, swinging the ass end all over the place, running between and over cones, and could give a Tinker's Damn about the time!
I dunno, you guys tell me how I could better get my money's worth. I just can't seem to get past it. Jim |

Re: Little British Cars with big engines rule!
They ought to have a drifting event at the British V8 meets so we could get silly on purpose.
