Triumph Sports Cars

Found a guy getting rid of a 71 Triumph GT6 that he had spent a lot on upgrading. I'm going to change a few things so it's very similar to my sprite but I think it'll be better with the parts that are already in it. It has a fully built square tube frame, custom 4 link in the back, ford 9 inch with 3:55 gears and a mini spool, Custom suspension and rack and pinion up front, built th400 with reverse manual valve body and 2500 stall converter, newly built 355 SBC, all set back 18 inches from stock, behind the front axle. Air bags and custom disc brakes on all 4 corners, new power brake booster, custom fuel cell, shaved doors and power windows, all steel, weighs 2022 pounds as it sits now (probably around 2250 when I finish). My plan is to pull the engine put the 406 into it when I finish rebuilding it, put the engine from this car into the camaro, and twin gt35 turbos on the 406 in this triumph. Should be a street car terror and an auto cross demon. I also will need to put interior in, probably a cage, and I may switch the bags on the corners for coil overs for ease and space constraints. I finally took delivery of the triumph gt6... First thing is first, I'm going to snatch the engine and transmission, and then start figuring out how to get rid of the airbags that are in the car currently and put in coil overs. More to follow.

Well, I start pulling the car apart and found some interesting stuff... First off, the 4 link setup was small square tubing and nuts... I don't think they got any penetration trying to weld galvanized nuts to the tubing and I found one of the links already snapped. I'm going to redo them the right way. I also found a board on top of the rear suspension, I'm guessing it was put there to keep the car off the tires when the airbags were flat, which they are... Thankfully I'm going to swap over to coilovers all around. I should get a ton done today.

Stock is 83"

At first guess, with just a rough tape measurement, it looks like from center of rear hub to center of front hub is roughly 90ish inches... Chassis is extremely well built, someone really put a lot of time and money into certain aspects of the car, certain other parts not so much, the busted rear 4 link bar is a good case in point another is the air bag suspension with no real thought to shocks, etc. even parts of the suspension, while very well put together, can bind in suspension travel. I'll get all of that sorted out. I'm at a stopping point today, going to toss this engine after a lot of cleaning and some swapping of parts from an old engine into my Cameron tomorrow then the triumph gets its spot in the garage.
1st photo is the tire that came out of the car as I got it, and a 345 sized tire from my z06... I'd like to get something close to that width under the rear with some modifications.
Rest kinda speak for themselves... No trans dipstick, cooler lines barely put in, zero fluid in the trans, etc etc...

This will be an interesting car when it is done. Keep up the good work with lots of photos.

Ok, It's been awhile since I bumped this one up, but I want to get a few opinions on what I'm thinking as a way ahead on the car. I originally was going to put a viper motor in the car and after a lot of measurements, I could make it fit. They are extremely heavy and expensive though and really, it would just be for the cool factor, since there are many other options that would work a lot better with the parts I have lying around.
new thoughts are something along the lines of...
Engine:
-Iron Block / Aluminum head LS series engine built to handle lots of boost
-T67 twin turbos for now... Haven't decided just yet though.
-4L80E trans to handle the power and give me the overdrive... un-decided on stall speed for the moment
-Already have a Ford 9 inch in the rear and disc brakes all around, the mini spool in the rear is going away and probably something in the 3:55 range will go back in.
-Already have the Fuel system and the engine computers (Fuel lab, FAST XFI/XIM)
-Suspension will be adjustable Coil overs all around.

Here's where I break from the norm and am really un-decided though.
-Thinking of putting 67 mustang Eleanor style rear taillights in the car... I think the rearend of the car lends itself well to that style and that car is my favorite car of all time so I'm a little biased... Open to thoughts or other ideas.
-Car is going to get side pipes but going to recess them like the Jaguar V12 powered GT6 that's in the project journal... I don't have the space to run them under the frame so coming off the turbos, that seems like an easy choice.
-I'm going to put the side windows back in the car to fix the looks and massive blind spot that it has right now. I haven't decided if -I'm going to put the little vents behind the windows or not... Thoughts?
-I'm going to French in the license plate in the rear below the Eleanor tail lights.


Thoughts? Car weighed 2,022lbs with the TH400, Iron block/heads SBC, and ford 9 inch in the car. I'm going to try and keep the full weight of the car below 2600 lbs.
-I'm looking for a very small vintage air type setup that I can cram in the dash area to give me AC and Heat. any ideas on where to find one?
-The interior right now will be bucket seats and I'll go through and re-do everything so it looks nice and more up to speed with the theme of the build.
-paint scheme, well, yeah, very close to the Eleanor type paint scheme. Basically gunmetal grey with a black stripe from the hood scoop back and a red pinstripe around that black stripe. Eleanor type wheels probably because I have ford bolt pattern on the car right now.

Thoughts?
