Spitfire/Ford I4 Conversion
I'm interested in converting my spitfire to a mustand I4 , including rear end .
I've looked at David Stutz's pics , doesn't look like he did much cutting , any comments ? |

Re: Spitfire/Ford I4 Conversion
I had to cut the flat (horizontal) section of the firewall from the master cyl. bracket to the bracket next to the battery box out to get my I-4 in and behind the stearing rack. I wanted it as low as possible and the front pully behind the stearing rack. so not too much for the engine. The tranny, M5od, I used is a different story. I had to notch the frame from the firewall to behind the crossmember on both sides. I think the M5 is a great trans., but I wouldn't say it was an easy fit in a spitfire, I bet I had the eng./trans. in and out 20 times or more in order to get it in.
I think the engine position and trans. size were the major factors in all the cutting The eng./trans. I used are from a '96 ford ranger($200 roll over). Pics are in the Project Journals section, titled - 2.3 liter Ford/Spitfire hope this helps. If you haven't, checkout www.esslingeracing.com, Crazy Horsepower from a Ford I-4 |
