How much tire ?

Would you believe 12.25" x 25.7" ? Yes, I'm a little supprised also. Huffaker rear quarter panel added 2.5" of wheelwell width .Standard JH shock location will likely need to be moved further inboard as it's centered front to rear, on inside of wheelwell. These tires just "might" hold a Hemi, fairly well. Cheers, roverman.

Sounds suspiciously close to a Corvette tire size. 315's maybe?

Yup. 315/35-17. "Maybe" a 275 on front, but only an 8" net width rim. Onward, roverman.

I'll have to look at the size but I think a 255/45-17 has very close to the same diameter and makes a good choice for a front tire. Much more than that and you'll need to have pretty good tread depth to avoid hydroplaning. With 265/50-14's any time I got below half tread it began to feel the effects on any standing water. YMMV.

I think I'm at 8-1/2 and 11-1/2 on the rims, but of course it changes some with tire brand. The 255's are pretty common I think.

Clan, "It never rains in So Cal." lol. Sumitomo II's are wet tread usable. Team 3 wheels just brought out a 9.5" rim. I'll check front for potential. 8" to 10.5" width is quite a spread front/rear. Cheers, roverman.

I am running Sumitomo HTR Z tires, 315/35/17 on the rear and 275/40/17 on the front. Rims are 9.5” and 11”. The outer diameters are identical. They grip great and wear a lot better than the UTQG 180 rating suggests. These tires are cheap compared to most others. The rears are $166.00 and the fronts are $141.00. Good bang for the buck.

Phil, Looks like I'm limited on outside dia. of tire, (24.5"?) and an 8" wide rim, in the front. I don't want to cut-up the front wheelwell structure. Cheers, roverman.

Once I put a tire on the 8" Team 3 wheel, I can't return it. How do I closely emulate the contoured fit without a tire? I'm considering taping on cardboad disks of a desired tire diameter. How about an inflated inner tube, with a strap around it's diameter, to get a close profile shape ? Next width up is 9.5", a LOT more work. A 275/40-17 tire will require serious fender mods, like at least 2"+ more wheelwell diameter to clear the steering arc. While I'm at it, might as well increase track width-right ? Do I have enough "scope creep" yet ? I had a crazy idea to "drive" the car to Coronado Island Vintage Race meet, not to race, in Sept-2012. What was I thinking ? Onward, roverman.

Here is one of the front hood!

This Healey was beautifully done!

DSCN1655.JPG

My ride showing tire size of 245/45/17 Yokohama S drives, measured almost 10" wide tread, maybe 9 1/2" foot print on the ground! Can put most of the power to the ground with these tires. With 19 gallons of gas over the tires "yes", but without the fuel not as good LOL. It gets kind of driffty back there without the fuel weight.

Here is some different style hood candy!

Phil and clan. Regarding Sumitomo's HTR-z's. There was (1) slighty negative reveiw of this tire. A guy bought a Ferrari F355 with these on it. The car actually had the stuff to" over-temp the tires", I'm as shocked as anyone/ lol. He would let them cool slightly, and they always came back. I figure for Harbor Freight pricing on this level of grip and wear, maybe I'm not "ready" to own a 355. Cheers, roverman.

Calvin, Why does the back of your car look like a "Healey"? lol. I'll try to get some good shots this week end. Cheers, roverman,

"Wow" Art, after looking at the back end of the yellow Jensen Healey, then the back end of my TR6, they both have close design in shape. Lol

And guess what "Hell Yeah It's got a Hemi". Look at the tire size to get the subject on tires!

Just noticed that flamed Healey hood. Very interesting and probably lets out a whole lot more hot air than a few louvers.

Rick, I'm thinkin with jus' the right amount of "Lucas", those flames could be Very realistic. I'm going with Captain Nemo louvers on Hemi Healey. Should help it "dive" into the corners/lol. roverman.
