sbc motormounts
i recently purchased a 59 100-6 two seater healey with sbc zz4 engine and four speed manual. i have started to update the car to my liking and to install a 200R4 aod transmission. the engine was originally installed with the front motor mounts that were used on the 55-57 engines and a rear transmission mount. i have heard of several cracked transmission cases especially aluminum utilizing this mounting system,. i also wish to raise the engine about an inch and move it forward an inch and utilize the later side mount engine motor mounts. the new engine placement moves the engine forward enough to use the original healey motor mount pedestals located on the frame rails. do any of you guys use these and if so do you have any recommendations regarding the motor mounts. there are a bunch of motor mounts available from the aftermarket. i would like to find a set that i could easily adapt to the pedestals without reworking the pedestals them selves...well, mayve some gussets for addition strengths. ideas or recommendations are appreciated and a good picture or two is most welcome. thanks in advance, maxwedge5281@charter.net

Speedway Motors has the bellhousing bolt on mounts to match your old style front mounts. They have lots of universal side mounts also. I would use the rear tranny mount too.

Larry,
Take a look at this old Hot Rod article, I think you'll find what you're looking for: [modifiedhealeys.org] |

Re: sbc motormounts
thanks guys. after looking at the hot rod magazine article i used the same approach. very easy method and easy to attch to the original healey mounting pedestals. utilizing the sanderson headers i was able to relocate the motor slightly higher and a bit more forward. rear trans mount was very easy to fabricate as well. and i have enough space between the engine and radiator to mount a puller fan.
