SBC Width with Block Huggers
Greetings,
I am in the process of looking at engine upgrades for my old land rover. One of the engines that I am looking at is the good old carbed sbc. I really don't need much power, just enought to push the old girl up to the ski hill a little easier. After sorting out my gearbox setup, I now see that the engine would sit between the footwells. The space has no "top" only the sides. I don't have an engine in front of me and I seem to get wildly different numbers from the internet. I was wondering if anybody could give me some insight into the overall width with some block huggers on it. I really don't care what waterline the measurement is take at. I am just after the abosulute width on the rearish of the motor. Do the blockhuggers save much on the width at all? Any help you can give would be great. |

I'll run the question past some of the guys on my Vega list. They'll probably know.

Adam,
Just saw your message. I'll put my block huggers on and reply back here again in a couple of days. Tracy |

Re: SBC Width with Block Huggers
Adam,
I show approximately 26.25 inches at the outer edges of the rear pipes. My headers are off the shelf from Summit Racing, they have 1.75 inch pipes. The collectors dump just to the rear of the engine mounts and are approx 16.75 inches apart at the outer edges of the collectors. They cost $185. Sanderson makes several different headers for the small block chevrolet that are even narrower than block huggers, be fore warned, they aint cheap. Hope this helps. Tracy |
