Repco Brabham V8
A very interesting article. I do believe the version shown is a later iteration of the Olds put together by Brabham. It looks very similar.

Re: Repco Brabham V8
I'm no expert, but before I read the article, I was curious about the design of the combustion chamber. Obviously, those are Olds heads, but there is no 'wedge' combustion chamber as on production heads. The wedge chamber, a 'Ricardo' design, was a pretty good design, yet they went with a 'chamber in piston' design instead.
Very impressive work that they did. I was impressed by the non-crossflow concept, too. Low profile for aerodynamic reasons. Obviously, the later Rover engines used a cross-bolted main system like this Repco block. Is that a 180 crank? |

Sure looks like a flat plane crank. I wonder what it sounds like? I was trying to make sense of the last pic in your post. Are those the intake ports? and the spark plug ports along side?
Interesting stuff. The idea of housing the upper timing chain in the front cover is cool. Smart. |
