Hydraulic throwout bearing for T5 with 1"-14 input shaft
Posted by: joe_padavano

I'm in the process of putting an S-10 T5 behind the 215 in my 62 F-85 wagon. For a lot of reasons I'm going with a hydraulic throwout bearing (yes, I'm well aware of people who have had problems with them). Does anyone know of a source for a hydraulic throwout that will fit the bearing retainer on the 1"-14 spline input shaft, or is my only choice to press a sleeve over the bearing retainer and use the widely available T5 hydraulic throwout? Thanks.

I have one from McLeod Racing that I have been using for about 15 years now without any problems. They have two styles. One replaces your bearing retainer (that is what I have) and one that slides onto your bearing retainer. The car is a street/strip TR6 with about 65,000 miles on it.

Dale,

Do you have a part number? And to confirm, this is with the small 1" input shaft, not the larger V8 input shaft?

Joe, My T5 is a Ford application so it would not be the same part number. I am 99% sure they will have a hydraulic bearing that would work for you. Since you are putting it behind a 215 they very likely will need a dimension from the clutch fingers to the face of the bell housing. To get this dimension install your clutch and bell housing as if you were ready to install the T5. Make sure the clutch mounting screws are all fully tight. Lay a straight edge across the face of the bell housing where the T5 would mount. Measure from the straight edge to the fingers on the clutch. They will need this dimension to determine which of the two bearing types you will need. Call McCloud Racing and discuss your application with them. Go to their web site to learn more about the bearing.

"Joe, My T5 is a Ford application so it would not be the same part number."

It would not be the 1"-14 input shaft, either...

To date I have not been able to find a hydraulic throwout bearing specifically for that configuration, thus back to my original question:

Does anyone know if there is a hydraulic throwout bearing available that fits the 1"-14 input shaft on a General Motors T5 as used behind the 2.8 liter V6 and the 4 cyl? Just so we're all clear, that is SMALLER than the Ford input shafts or the GM input shafts as used behind the V8 and 4.3 V6. Thanks.

Thanks. I actually stumbled over that one shortly after writing my post above. Interesting that it shows the same P/N for both the 1" and 1.125" input shafts. Does that mean that other (more reasonably priced) T5 hydraulic throwout bearings will also fit both? Inquiring minds want to know.

Hi Joseph,

Been away for a while... Better answering late than never.

We have a complete HTOB system with all fittings right to the Master cylinder that will fit your setup. When people are using these for non-MGB installations, we change out few of our lines for the same price to make it easier to install in other applications as well.

Regards,

-Brian.
