harmonic balancer question
What kind of harmonic balancer's are all of you using on the buick 300 crank in 215 blocks? I'm sure there are a few options and I need help deciding. thanks

Re: harmonic balancer question
David and clan, the "300" is externally balanced, front/back. Probably "less" eccentric weight than 340/350. You "might" be able to reduce eccentric weight on a new 350 dampener. Flexplate also had eccentric weight. I don't know the grams/inches. Perhaps D&D or others here ? Good Luck. roverman.

Re: harmonic balancer question
I'd suggest you use the 300 damper and flywheel. That will get you closer than anything else and then have the works balanced. Rebuilt dampers are available.

Re: harmonic balancer question
thanks for input, I have an aluminum flywheel and am going for internal balance, I have a tr8, a 215 olds and a 215 buick that all need rebuild. I like the tr8 the best but pulleys don't line up. Is there an aftermarket hi po internal bal race approved balancer out there? damper doctors get almost $300.00 - core, anyways!

Re: harmonic balancer question
You might see if there's a zero balance damper available for the Buick V6. That should also fit. I used a fluid damper for a Jeep motor but had to turn an adapter to match the Buick damper hub. Many aftermarket dampers are 3 piece. Since the BOPRs are internal any of those should be usable. Worst case, you might have to mill the balance weight off so the one you use can be zero balanced.

Re: harmonic balancer question
Hi everyone,
I spoke to TA Performance a couple of months back about this and was told a 350 Buick balancer works for the 300 crank. You should double check just to make sure though. Regards Jason |
