T5 Transmission question

Hello all, got a question for you. I currently have a T5 from a v8 Camaro installed in the car but it has issues that need addressed at some point. Several syncros need to be replaced so it will probably be a total rebuild. I have a friend that has a T5 from a v6 camaro that is in good shape and he said I could have it if I wanted. How would that affect the drive train? Is a v6 one a bad fit with the v8 engine? I have the 3.5L Rover installed with the stage 3 cam from Crower.

I plan to the do the rebuild on the installed transmission and I do not figure I will be very fast so thought maybe a swap could be done. I am guessing that I would have to have the end of the driveshaft swapped as I know there are two different spline patterns, I can't remember if it varies according to the year or the engine size for the T5. Thought I would throw it out there and see what the thoughts were. Thanks!!!

Sorry to have missed the meet but Texas was just too far, since it wasn't over a weekend. Michelle

Michelle, If you have the stock rear gears first will be really low. You could probably start out in second(or shift quickly to) and get by until you rebuild the other one. EBay has inexpensive T5 rebuild kits and manuals. Hanlon has a rebuild video: [www.hanlonmotorsports.com]

Sounds like you're making progress, Michelle. As Jim eluded to... what rear axle ratio are you running? Stock MGB (3.909:1) or something with longer legs? Makes a big difference. Dan Masters' handy Excel calculator might help you with the decisions: [www.britishv8.org]

The rear end is still stock as it wasn't necessary to change it with the set up I have in. I can actually start out in second with the gear ratio I have with the exisiting transmission, 4th gear seems to be the favored gear for cruising around town in.
