Anyone recognize this engine? (2200cc 4-cylinder)

Obviously it's not the engine this car originally came with.

It's subsequently been removed and replaced with a V6.

The car's current owner claims ignorance.

The engine's molded plastic cover appears to say "2200". (Note that the spark plug wires come out from under it.)

Looks like there's a really large engine ECU on the cowl.

I'm just curious, plus I'd like to note the engine's identity in a photo caption...

Bonus points will be given to anyone who can identify make and model of this aftermarket steering rack:

Steering U joints are Unisteer. Rack is center steer probably Unisteer based on Dodge Intrepid front steer for S10. Cavalier version is rear steer. Other pictures of rack in the article show it better

Austin Princess 2200 Vandenplas from the 1970s? Really? I don't think so.

---

From the Unisteer website, I can confirm that's their u-joints. (Thanks!)

The article shows two different racks... "before" and "after". The rack shown above is the after version, and it's the only one I care about. I don't see anything on the Unisteer website that matches it, but it's hard to tell because all the photos on their website are too small and too low-resolution. I'll shoot them an e-mail. Their "71-72 Pinto" model rack looks closer to me than anything they show on the S10 page.

Instead of spark plug wires, could those be glow plug wires? Isuzu diesel?

Looks like an Isuzu 2200 diesel to me. A couple of pics can be found here:

Those pics show the oil filter on the other side and the intake on the left so it'd be visible in the engine bay pic above... don't think that's it. I did some Googling the other day but didn't find anything that looked the same.

It's a Chevy 2.2 S10 engine.
Somewhere around 2000 I think.
The rack looks like a Flaming River unit.
Cheers
