JE Developments - Front Plate

John Eales has a Front Plate in his new products section. [www.johnealesroverv8.co.uk]. It may not be new, but I have only recently started looking at parts for an upgrade to a cross bolt motor.
It appears to allow a crank driven oil pump with a "thinner" front section as well as a distributor for those who want to remain with carbs.
Has anybody tried one of these? It would be very nice to avoid the hassle of the oil filter take-off and would seem to be a viable, if not cheap, alternative, I have always heard that his stuff is very good.
Thanks for any opinions.

Nick,

At close to $800 landed would be fairly expensive. I run a 4.6L with Buick V6 front cover and D&D swivel oil filter flange, no need for remote lines etc. All in just over $200 with all new parts. My motor came with an old style oil pan so that was one less part needed. Aftermarket Cams tend to be cheaper for the old style setup as well, Crower 50232 is $160. Sure the JE cover is nice, guess it depends on what parts you already have.

I saw those covers last year when John was setting them up. It looks a neat bit of kit for sure. I visit John a few times a year for parts for the MGB. It would certainly help me in the future with shredding dissy drive gears while racing as the replacement cam gears vary so much in hardness when you buy them. I now run 15/40 oil in the MGB which has reduced wear somewhat. It would certainly be easier if the cog on the distributer was the soft one eh ?

Nick, Just go to the wrecking yard and get the 94-96 Land Rover interim cover. Need the damper also. Serpentine belt system too. Some 86-87 FWD Buick V6 had the gearotor oil pump and soft plug in the distributor hole also.
