215 block clean out

I've heard that 215's had a problem when new with 1960's era antifreeze that would lead to clogging coolant passages. Anyone know if this is really true? And if so, what can be done to clean out those passages? Would some run time with modern antifreeze flush out the junk? Would a 215 that made it into the late 1980's in it's original car have cleaned itself out by then? Point me to an old thread if this has been covered before.

Currently available antifreeze products are aluminum compatible - products available in the 60's weren't necessarily so (although Corvette rads were aluminum so the product was available but in low volume)...the result for not using compatible antifreeze was silicate dropout in the coolant passages.
The first question to ask is whether or not you are going to rebuild the engine - if yes, then an alkali bath is an automatic step at the engine builder and should eliminate all the silicate crud.
