Rover V8 tappet pre-load
I was told to be sure to set the preload on the new tappets I am installing with my new camshaft. I am unfamiliar with this process, thinking that hydraulic tappets are non adjustable. "drop em in and your set"
Can anyone tell if this is a critical and necessary procedure? Thanks |

Re: Rover V8 tappet pre-load
Initial set up, yes. I would fill the lifters with oil first. Shaft rockers like Buick/Rover are not adjustable unless you have adjustable rockers. If adjustable, adjust like solids with the valves closed, but instead of gap turn the pushrod while tightening. When it just stops turning, tighten 1/2 turn. I guess you could also use adjustable pushrods or shim the rocker shaft stands also.
