MOTOR OIL ENGINEERING TEST DATA

Re: MOTOR OIL ENGINEERING TEST DATA
So, I've browsed the file at that link. Here are some observations;
The good; The author is sincere in his efforts. He does his own testing. The author's background helps inform his explanations. The bad; The author is pretty sure of himself, even when he's talking nonsense. He seems to be uninformed about the nature of 'zinc' - ZDDP - Zinc diaryl dithiophosphate, and Zinc dialkyl dithio phosphate. To me, not even understanding ZDDP invalidates much of what he wants to convey. His explanation of the flow qualities of the various grades of oil, 5w20 vs. 5w40 vs. 10w40 made reading his information worthwhile. I wish the author would have spent more time talking more about bearing clearances and how they impact lubrication qualities. I saved the information to my archive of files, but I read it with skepticism. |
