Which cam 3.9 carb mgb
Hi I'm based in the U.K. and struggling to find anyone who's not a purist to ask advice !! We are currently starting to BGT V8 conversions both running 3.9 rover with 500cfm edekbrivk 1404 on performer manifolds with RV8 headers. Big question is which cam? At this stage I didn't want to machine the valve stems etc as wanted to get running and swap heads over to stage 1or 2 in the near future. Is there a cam you guys are running like piper 270 which will go straight in, OR should I machine valves to enable higher lift cam now, so that it is in ready for head upgrade?
I will start posting the fun over next few days and open up a build file Thanks in advice Phil |

Re: Which cam 3.9 carb mgb
Hello and welcome.
Real Steel have their stump puller and other high-torque options [www.realsteel.co.uk] And Newman Cams who have a superb rep for their work, offer two Fast Road options [www.newman-cams.com] Buy matching lifters from the same source. Sorry if it's statin' the bleedin obvious, but one can't put just any lifters on just any cam, the hardenesses have to be a suitable combination. Ivor |

Phil, You cut the guides down for Viton seals. I used small block Chevy springs and larger valves in the 300 heads.

Re: Which cam 3.9 carb mgb
Give the cam suppliers a call Phil.
Be prepared with all the specs on your car, trans type, gear ratio's, tire size, compression ratio, head flow's, intended usage etc. They can then supply a cam that is best suited for you. You'll find that these guys are generally a wealth of knowledge and won't steer you wrong. Cheers Fred |

Re: Which cam 3.9 carb mgb
With the Crower 50232, you will have to change springs to prevent coil bind & likely take a bit off the top of the valve guides for the Buick 215 & Rover V8s.

Re: Which cam 3.9 carb mgb
Having had a chat with Ray at V8 Developments who was v helpful, I'm going to go fir the easier option of his MC1 cam as I won't have to machine anything at this stage or pocket the pistons. Once up and running I'll look for a set of heads from him to complement the cam. I'd love to go higher lift but funds prohibit this at the mo. I'll come back with some dynobfigs soon

Re: Which cam 3.9 carb mgb
Crower 50232 is a nice cam and works well with the 14CUX FI on my 4.6L just fine. But idle is not that smooth if you run it closed loop on the FI. Needs about an AFR of 13 or so, otherwise the lumpiness shows up well. Rover gauge and a chip burner solves this easily though. Or just run the Map 2 in the ECU by changing the resistor. If carb, no issues. Did have to cut valve spring pockets etc though.
