Re: S10 T5 Gearbox to Rover 3,5
Peter, I know the S10 has a lower first gear and shifter location is about 8" forward from Camaro. Bellhousing depends, early had Chevy pattern, later had Ford pattern. D&D can do both.

Re: S10 T5 Gearbox to Rover 3,5
The biggest problem is WHICH S-10 trans? World class or non-world class? I4 (with the small input shaft) or V6? Early (with the Muncie bolt pattern) or late (with the Ford bolt pattern)? The shifter location is the easiest problem to resolve, as all T5 tailhousings swap. There are three shifter locations available - the S-10 (furthest forward), the Astro van (about 8" further back but least common tailhousing to find), and the Camaro/Mustang (furthest back). The I4 and small V6 transmissions with the 1" input shaft are to be avoided. The input shaft is weak and first gear is so steep that you'll have to shift before you get across the crosswalk. The Muncie pattern cases bolt to the aftermarket D&D bellhousing. The Ford pattern cases (GM switched to this in the mid-90s) require an adapter plate that D&D sells. The Camaro applications rotate the trans 15 degrees, so the shifter hole will be angled if you install the trans "straight up" with the D&D bellhousing. The Mustang tailhousing fixes this. FYI, the late 90s T5s used behind the 3.8 liter V6 in the F-body cars came with a factory hydraulic throwout bearing, but these are the Fort bolt pattern.

Re: S10 T5 Gearbox to Rover 3,5
Quote: I think you confused the Astro van shifter location with the Camaro/Firebird, Joe The Astro van shifter is only a bit over 2" back from the S10. Also, the Camaro/Firebird shifter hole is straight up. Only the tailshaft mounting pad & shifter itself are angled 17 degrees. [lugnutz65chevystepside.weebly.com] |

Re: S10 T5 Gearbox to Rover 3,5
A Camaro or Mustang tailstock will have the desired shifter location.....but you'll have to let us know the gear ratios of these transmissions, and also the rear axle ratio and tire size you're planning on using, to know if the transmission is compatible from a performance perspective.
Some of the T5 transmissions used behind 4 or 6 cylinder engines have a numerically high first gear ratio and don't work well with the MGB 3.91 rear axle ratio, rendering first gear performance essentially useless. |

Re: S10 T5 Gearbox to Rover 3,5
13-52-065-922 is the casting number of the case only. It will not tell you what engine was used or the gears ratios. Look for one with the ID tag still attached.

Re: S10 T5 Gearbox to Rover 3,5
Sd, but you can probably pick up one on Ebay. Rimmer bros just started selling new bell housings for cheaper than what used ones were going for.

Re: S10 T5 Gearbox to Rover 3,5
Peter, is your 3,5 motor from a manual trans car ? If not, you need to source the flywheel and clutch package as well.
There are two Rover gearbox options: the older LT77 and newer R380.Both look the same, R380 is an uprated version of the LT77. There are also different versios of the LT77designated by a suffix letter in the gearbox serial number. LT77 was used in several cars, Triumph 7 and 8, Rover SD1, Sherpas, Morgans etc. R380 was used in MG RV8 and Morgans. I have had a Triumph TR7 LT 77 for 20 years. It is most likely a Suffix A box (weakest version) but has worked flawlessly. I bought and rebuilt a R380 box years ago but it is still waiting for the LT77 box to break :-) 2 things to note: first; there is also a 4WD version of the box with transfer box. This is not the same thing as 2WD box. Forget it. second: there are two types of 2WD boxes: passenger car box with 3,3:1 first gear and then the commercial version with 4,something 1st gear ratio. Not the best option for a normal sized car. A couple of links for info: [www.gomog.com] [www.v8engines.com] Hope this helps. |
Re: S10 T5 Gearbox to Rover 3,5
Ok thanks for answer. I think after reading that a LT 77 box for SD1 are the easiest and cheapest soloutions for my capri projekt, where in uk can i find / advertisiment after a box ?
