5.0 302 Rover Jaguar pushrod V8
I am an old America Hot rod fan and would need to get my facts straight (hard to do at my age).
Is the Rover 5.0 V8 a Ford V8? we used to call them 302s in my cubic inch past and they were push rod V8s and still are over here in Mustangs, Pickup trucks, and the like. I think if I understand correctly that when Ford bought Jaguar/Rover the aforementioned V8 was put in the Jag and called an AJ8? is that correct? Flowing on it made it's way into the Rover too? Is the top end Rover (the one with the supercharged V8) still using a ford drive train? Thanks and please forgive my olzheimers disease. K |

Re: 5.0 302 Rover Jaguar pushrod V8
According to google search, the Jaguar AJ engine is ALL Jaguar design and not Ford related. I think the original design was named AJ26 and later AJ types numbers consecutively. Started out as 4.0L and increased later and updated designs. They were DOHC engines with steel liners and VVT. Some Ford models used the ZF tranny and a modified Jag design engine in the Lincoln LS, T-Bird Super Coupe to name a few.

OK... I thought Ford put the 5.0 push rod V8 in the Jag too.
Any autos made over there that also use the same Ford push rod V8 besides the Land Rover? We don't have a factory supercharged 5.0 on this side of the pond as far as I know. Ford seems to be promoting the 3.5 Eco Boost V6 for top end power... instant 500 ft/lbs of torque. For trivia the 302 (5.0) started out over here as a 221cu in and became most popular as the 289 and then as the 302 in Mustangs thanks all |

Re: 5.0 302 Rover Jaguar pushrod V8
No. The Ford 302 was a cast iron block design, whereas the Rover was originally a Buick 215 all aluminium engineBritish Leyland in late 1960's. Also: no. 1 cylinder on the Rover/Buick is the front cylinder on the left hand side of the engine with number 2 front right hand side (like a Chevy), whereas Ford no 1 is front right hand side and number 2 cylinder is also right hand side, second from front, then 3 then 4 closest to firewall. Cylinder 5,6,7 and 8 are all on left. Rover, like Chevy is criss-cross.
I hope this helps |
