Buick 215 front on a rover 4l

Hello, this is my first time posting here, I am usually on the Mgexp board but I felt this would be more appropriate, now on to the problem. I have no idea how a Buick 215 oil pump is supposed to draw oil from the sump. On the stock cover there is room for a pump thing that sticks out from under the engine, if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
